We're expecting to see the launch of a completely new generation of Evo early next year when the Evo X is revealed, but in the meanwhile, Mitsubishi has announced the creation of yet another development of the
Evo IX. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX FQ-360 (as it is snappily titled) was launched at the
London Motor Show ahead of its first deliveries to customers in September. Like all the FQ range, this model is only for sale in the UK.
The name hints at the car's potential, as Ralliart has tweaked the engine control unit, fitted a high pressure fuel pump and a high-flow catalytic converter to release 366bhp at 6890rpm. Not only that, the peak torque figure of 363lb.ft is even higher than the mad
FQ-400 launched in 2004, and it is lower down the rev range in a bid to improve the Evo's drivability.
Visual changes to the FQ-360 over the rest of the FQ range are limited to a carbon fibre chin spoiler for additional downforce at speed and at the rear, a carbon fibre 'sharks tooth' rear vortex generator helps to reduce aerodynamic lift. The Speedline five-spoke alloys would not look out of place on a rally stage and Mitsubishi is keen to point out that they can't be bought as aftermarket items. Given the car's performance (0-60mph in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 160mph), its £35,504 purchase price sounds a bit of a bargain. Can't wait to try it for ourselves...
