Renault celebrates its 2005 F1 constructors' championship with the introduction of two new special editions of the recently facelifted Renault Megane. For all those Fernando Alonsos out there, there is the new Megane Sport 225 Renault F1 Team and the Renault Megane Maxim for the more value-minded.
Renault has added eye catching 18-inch gloss black alloys, matching door mirrors and 'Ultra Blue' paintwork to the Cup chassis package. If the Megane Renault F1 is as good as the hugely successful Clio Williams and Renault 19 16v that were held in such high regard in the 1990s, drivers won't be disappointed.
The Renault F1 team continues the theme inside with hip-hugging Recaros instead of the conventional sports seats. The steering wheel and gearshift gator are decked out with blue detailing and the cabin is finished with a unique plaque. Don't forget the Cup extras such as Brembo brakes and uprated springs and dampers; should result in an inspired drive. With the popularity of F1 back on the rise, partly due to Fernando Alonso and the Renault F1 team, and production not limited, this particular special edition should prove a hit.
If motorsport isn't your thing then try a new Renault Megane Maxim Special Edition. As part of the new facelift, with no rise in cost, customers receive revised V-shaped front grille and front bumper, slim tapered headlamps and new rear light clusters. Other extras include an uprated stereo and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Renault continues to add to the Megane range with its new range of diesel powertrains: the new 1.5dCi 106 6-speed for the entry level and a flagship 2-litre dCi 150. Expect to pay no more than current prices for these offerings, available from February with the 2-litre oil burner not out until May.
Renault can't seem to lose with the award winning Megane, and if it keeps freshening up the range with its sporty and frugal models it may continue to be one of Europe's best sellers in this segment. Watch out for our forthcoming review of the RenaultSport Megane Cup on the
Renault Road Tests page.
