What's all this about?
Every year, a huge Volkswagen-based show takes place next to a lake in Wörthersee, Austria. And every year, the manufacturers in the Volkswagen Group trot out some outlandish custom builds for said show. This is Skoda's 2015 entry.
Do my eyes deceive me, or is it a Fabia pick-up?
Your eyes don't deceive you. And, if you're old enough, you'll recall the Felicia Fun of the late 1990s, which is almost this thing's grandfather. The vehicle you're looking at is the Fabia Funstar, and it was conceived and built by a bunch of teenagers who are in Skoda's vocational academy. Last year, the same place was responsible for the Citijet, which also went to Wörthersee.
Do we have any specs on the Funstar?
It has a turbocharged 1.2-litre TSI four-cylinder engine with 122hp, a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 18-inch alloys from an Octavia vRS. The green accents on the car are nice, but marks are deducted because it's not the corporate green colour of Skoda. Tch!
Will it go into production?
No. Skoda hasn't completely lost its marbles, you know...
