What's all this about?
The Volkswagen Sharan MPV has been mildly overhauled by Wolfsburg, with new technology, engines that are more efficient and some extremely minor visual alterations making up the package of upgrades.
I can't see anything different about it.
You'd have to be the mother of all Sharan fans to spot that the new car now has LED rear lights.
And...?
And that's it externally. Inside, new accents and materials are to be found, while the instrument cluster has been mildly redesigned.
Crikey, that is minimal stuff. You'd better tell me about the technology.
There's a second-generation modular infotainment platform with high-resolution touchscreen controls. Volkswagen says this is much quicker than the preceding software and it offers extra connectivity, thanks to App Connect. Meanwhile, in terms of driving aids, the Sharan has a standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, while optional kit now available runs to Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, third-generation Park Assist and the Blind Spot Monitor.
How about those engines?
Volkswagen says it has 'completely redesigned' the range of two petrol TSI and three diesel TDI engines for the Sharan, claiming they are up to 15 per cent more fuel efficient and EU6-compliant across the board - but it doesn't say how they've been redesigned. Hmm, it's probably just new software. Anyway, the petrol units come in either 150- or 220hp formats, with the latter being 20hp up on its comparative preceding model, while the diesels are available in 115-, 150- and 184hp trims. These last two also see mild power increases, of 10- and 7hp respectively. All engines, barring the 115hp TDI, can be mated to an optional six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission with coasting function.
And when does it go on sale?
In its home German market, from April with cars delivered in summer. Expect the UK to follow on soon after that.
