What's the news?
This summer sees the release of two new special edition Volkswagen up! models. The Groove up! and Rock up! feature enhancements inside and out in order to appeal to younger buyers.
Exterior
The new Rock up! will go on sale with a full body kit comprising of a front lip spoiler, side skirts, rear wing and diffuser. The sporty look is completed by an anthracite racing stripe running front to back, and the addition of gloss black door mirrors. 'Ulipson' 16-inch alloys have been fitted too.
The Groove up! also comes with exterior enhancements, but these are limited to rear privacy glass, 16-inch alloys and gloss black door mirrors, as most of this car's upgrades reside in the cabin.
Interior
The most notable addition to the Groove up! is the 300-watt Fender sound system featuring six high-quality speakers. This is connected to Volkswagen's 'Maps and More' infotainment system that includes touchscreen satnav and Bluetooth connectivity. In terms of upholstery, orange stitching can be found on both the leather steering wheel and handbrake, as well as on the seats, which are now heated.
The Rock up! gets the same upgrades as the Groove up!; although this model has to make do without the Fender sound system.
Mechanicals
Both special editions are fitted with Volkswagen's three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine, developing 75hp and returning 60.1mpg. Emissions for this engine sit at 108g/km, qualifying it for free road tax for the first year and then just £20 thereafter.
In terms of safety, both versions can be specified with Emergency City Braking - Volkswagen's system that will autonomously brake the up! if an impending collision is detected.
Anything else?
Prices for the Groove up! start at £11,640 for a three-door model and £12,015 for a five-door. The Rock up! is only available as a three-door and costs from £12,980. Order books are open now with first deliveries expected in July.
