If DaimlerChrysler decide to produce this gorgeous coupe, Ferrari's 550 Maranello will finally have some serious competition. The concept showcases a new V8 engine which is going into production in the near future. This, coupled with body styling influenced by the 1950s SLR Gullwing and the current Mclaren-Mercedes Formula 1 car should certainly keep the Italian marque on its feet. Unlikely for production, however, is the high-tech interior, with its racing-inspired oval-shaped wheel, minimal instrumentation and light-weight carbon-fibre-framed bucket seats.

The striking looks are the work of Franz Lezher - also responsible for Mercedes' F300 concept car.
The F1 influence is obvious at the front - the nose and bonnet shape replicate the curve of a F1 car's nose-cone, aerofoil struts included! The SLR Gullwing's side-strakes have been incorporated, along with a modern interpretation of the gullwing doors (As you can see in the picture above, the doors open similarly to the Lamborghini Diablo). The rear end, however, is contempory Mercedes-Benz, explained by the fact that even though this car will not be produced in this format, it does point to the forthcoming SL replacement. Confirming this is the aluminium suspension and chassis which have already been signed off for production. Ditto the superb supercharged V8 engine (5.5-litres, 560bhp, 530lb ft). We await that car with bated breath.......
