BMW chose to launch it's new X5 at Detroit BMW chose to debut it's new - and first - off-roader in Detroit this year. After all, the US will be the vehicle's largest market. Reflecting this (and certain tax incentives....) BMW has decided to produce the car in South Carolina - starting this year. Before you go ring your local dealer, the car will not be available in the UK until the year 2000. We will have more details closer to that date.

At Detroit, BMW showed off the gorgeous Z07 concept car. Stylistically based on the 507 of 1955, the chassis and engine are far from traditional! The V8 from the M5 will power the aluminium spaceframe chassis. Even though the top speed will probably be limited to 155mph, acceleration should crush even the jet-like M5, as this car will be significantly lighter.
