The angular styling of the Cadillac Evoq is emphasised at the rear The automotive market is becoming more global all the time - here is proof. Cadillac has designed a stunning concept which panders as much to the desires of us Europeans as to the traditional Cadillac buyer. This is of course helped by the fact that Simon Cox - head of General Motors concept design - is British. As you can see in these pictures, there is not a trace of the traditional Cadillac in the Evoq. Minimal chrome, short overhangs, sharp styling, neat proportions - this is not how Cadillac has been perceived in the past.
That has obviously changed - GM are out for a larger portion of world sales and this is one way of attracting younger buyers to Cadillac. There are even rumours that the car is a very good possibility for production (they always say that....). If it did reach that stage, the Evoq would retain the Northstar engine - a 4.2-litre V8, supercharged in this application - and its Corvette-derived gearbox. It could even be produced in Kentucky, alongside the Corvette. That would certainly give the German marques something to think about! The launch of the Evoq at Detroit
The show car contained some interesting gadgets, some of which will certainly make production. The folding steel roof is novel, but expensive to produce. Inside, the occupants can access the Internet via the on-board computer and even send email via a Delphi designed voice-activated console. More useful perhaps is the "Night Vision". This gives the driver the ability to see hazards further ahead than would normally be possible - expect to see this on the Cadillac Seville soon.
