Usually the pages of All Torque contain the muscular, powerful and sensational cars about on today's roads. Power is not everything though. For the real enthusiast it is a question of fun and enjoyment in a unique affordable package. You will be surprised that you can find all of this in the KA, a car that has already won many design
accolades and the hearts of thousands of drivers across Europe.
Cleverly built on the floor pan of Ford's Fiesta, the KA is a leader in its class for driving experience and comfort. The exterior styling is refreshing and appealing. The bug like front end looks happy with its clever use of large clear headlamps. Sharp edges and the use of smooth curves make the car stand out, particularly at the rear where the large bumpers, smart use of glass and unique tail light clusters minimise the presence of metal on the boot door. What is also impressive, is that for a small car, exit and entry is not hindered in any way. On even the basic model smart wheel covers hide the steel 13-inch wheels. Wider 14inch alloy wheels are available as an option. Unique spring loaded door mirrors take the KA away from the corporate shaped ones found on other Fords such as Fiesta and Mondeo. I think however, body coloured bumpers should be considered, as it would further enhance an altogether cute looking car.

Sitting on the inside it's easy to see that the design team put a lot of thought into creating a pleasant and comfortable driving environment. The seats are supportive and shaped to give maximum comfort, almost better than some GTis seen recently by The Car Enthusiast. The switches have a crisp quality feel and are all within easy reach. The steering wheel is a thick 2-spoke version, which is chunky but has a nice feel. It is also well positioned to aid a good driving position. There is an abundant supply of storage bins and cupholders. Every detail is well thought out, even down to the quirky Ikea-style clock in the centre of the dash. I like it.

Out on the open road the idea of "Mums taxi" is soon forgotten. So the 1.3 engine only produces 59bhp and powers the KA to a top speed of 94mph, but reality dictates that on all our national roads there are speed limits! Don't worry I'm not losing it. Around town the drive is smooth, made possible by the slick gearchange and responsive acceleration. For some real fun take it onto twisty back roads and let the car delight you. The chassis is well sorted communicating positively with the driver. Throw it into bends and it behaves with limited body roll and amazing levels of grip. Even when hard pressed the little power plant is ready to reward with minimum noise. The steering is well balanced and gives precise control while all the time transmitting a message of security without losing the element of excitement. The KA is equally at home out on the motorway, soaking up the miles with little effort. For a small car it feels and handles like a large car. I really like it!
At first I was reluctant to spend some time with the KA but when it came time to give it back I found it hard to part with. My whole attitude to this car changed. It's the best fun I've had with my clothes on for a long time. This car is a small car with big car aspirations, too good to be "Mums taxi", but brilliant as your main car. Starting at 7,495 up to 9,495 (UK prices) there are three different trim levels to suit all lifestyles. Go on treat yourself; you know it makes sense.
