It's unlikely that you've heard of EDAG. The letters stand for Engineering + Design AG and this German company provides engineering consultancy solutions to the world's car manufacturers. At the
Geneva Show this year, EDAG brought its name very much to the forefront of the public's attention with the fantastic Biwak concept car.
Clearly, the Biwak is based on VW's New Beetle. The show car is so much more than just a billboard for the company's capabilities though. EDAG has actually researched how the Biwak would be manufactured depending on volumes and would love if VW approached the company to talk numbers.
EDAG foresee many different versions of the Biwak, depending on the application and the customer. According to the company, this includes "high gloss finish and chrome elements for the bank clerk; crinkle finish, steel rims and denim for the young rebel." The Geneva Show car is very striking. It features what the company calls "patina instead of high gloss". It may be difficult to see it in the pictures, but the main paintwork is textured and rough to the touch, while the bumpers are covered in tough saddle leather. Inspiration for this look comes from early '90s grunge fashion; the overall effect is remarkably effective and original.
