What's the news?

Jaguar Land Rover's newly-formed Special Vehicles Operation (SVO) has got off to a flyer by allowing a camouflaged prototype of the most powerful production Landie ever to blast up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Range Rover Sport SVR - a new sub-brand for Land Rover to be seen on all future high-performance models - roared up Lord March's driveway in the 'First Glance' category and it's expected to go on sale in 2015.

There are no details about its drivetrain as yet but SVO will at least admit it'll kick out 550hp, which is what gives it that 'most powerful' epithet. The RRS SVR is currently undergoing development prior to production and JLR claims the car will have a 'thrilling soundtrack to match its impressive pace'. SVO also says the SVR will be agile, despite its size.

Anything else?

All future SVR models will need to meet stringent key performance criteria in order to wear the badge. However, they will be built alongside existing models and sold through the Land Rover dealer network in the usual way.
