What's the news?
Skoda has announced a trio of special editions aimed at cycling fans tied in with the 2014 Tour de France, which starts on 5th July in Harrogate, Yorkshire. The Yeti, Octavia and Superb have been given extra equipment and 'le Tour de France' badges. Only 198 examples of each car will be sold; reflecting the number of cyclists participating in this year's event.
All three models come in red, white or blue, creating a link with both the British and French flags. On the inside there are waterproof seat covers and bike wheel bags again carrying the tour logo. Customers will also receive a centenary edition of the Rouleur Tour de France book and have the chance to win a VIP Tour de France experience.
The Yeti TdF costs £23,490 and is based on the Outdoor SE 2.0-litre TDI 140 4x4 model. Extra equipment includes an Amundsen satellite navigation system with DAB digital radio, keyless entry, floor mats and an internal bike rack. Priced at £28,490 the Superb Estate TdF comes with the same features as the Yeti as well as a space saver spare wheel and boot net. Based on the Octavia Estate SE 2.0-litre TDI 150 4x4 the £24,290 Octavia TdF adds roof bars and a roof mounted bike rack instead of an internal rack.
Anything else?
Skoda will be promoting the TdF models at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place a week before the cycle race, on 26-29 June. The company pavilion will contain a cycling simulator challenge while younger visitors can take part in a competition to design the 'King of the Mountains' jersey for the 2014 Tour of Britain in September.
If you prefer petrol power to pedal power the Skoda Fabia S2000 will be in action on the Forest Rally Stage at the top of the Goodwood hill climb.
