Before you set off

Albania is a great destination for campervans

If you want to visit a country with stunning scenery that isn't overrun by tourists, then Albania should be on the top of your list. It's perfect for independent travellers and if you're using your campervan for accommodation, there are over 26 campsites across the country.

You can visit the UNESCO World Heritage site at Berat in the south of the country and marvel at the museums and castles. Or, you can just relax on an idyllic beach; Drimades is easily accessible from the Totoreto campsite.

This area is still relatively unspoilt, so visit it before everyone else discovers its existence!

Landlocked beauty in Slovakia

If you love mountains, castles and traditional folk culture, get in your van and drive to Slovakia. There are 27 official campsites dotted around the country, and many of these are close to lakes or have onsite swimming pools.

Summers are hot in this part of the world. If you're thinking of visiting the historic capital, Bratislava, to explore its ancient streets, its castle and its traditional restaurants then it's easy to stay at one of the camping sites just outside the city.

Unspoilt France, by campervan

Thanks to its size and its geography, there are still many parts of France that have escaped mass tourism. If you really want to get away from it all and don't relish the idea of mixing with other visitors, then head off towards the wild Pyrenees on the border with Spain.
