What's the news?
Japanese car maker Infiniti has announced plans to release a special edition of its Q50 executive saloon, based on its association with Formula One through Red Bull Racing. Set to be called the 'Q50 Eau Rouge', it gets its name from one of the corners at the Spa Francorchamps race circuit, which is widely considered to be one of the most impressive sections of track in motorsport.
Although just one selectively-lit photo of the Q50 Eau Rouge has been released thus far, sources within Infiniti say that the car will wear more aerodynamic front and rear aprons that will ape some of the winglet technology seen on the Infiniti-sponsored Red Bull Racing Formula One car.
We won't know more about the Q50's performance until the car's official launch at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but Infiniti's Executive Design Director, Alfonso Albaisa, said "Performance is a key pillar of Infiniti's DNA and this car expresses a deepened design interpretation of that. The Q50, with an abundance of technologies, provides a great basis for an extreme performance version, embodied in the design of Q50 Eau Rouge."
Anything else?
Infiniti has invested heavily in its sponsorship with world championship winning team Red Bull Racing and has made its star driver - and four-time world champion - Sebastian Vettel its Director of Performance. The company has also previously released a Vettel Edition of the FX SUV.
