What's the news?
Porsche has announced a limited edition of its Cayenne 4x4 for January 2014. The Platinum Edition is only available with Cayenne V6 models. Why now? The next generation Cayenne is not out before 2015 and the Cayenne six-cylinder models are being upgraded.
This Cayenne comes standard with a Platinum Silver Metallic paint finish and has a raft of expensive options fitted as standard. These include a two-tone interior, eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox, bi-Xenon main headlights, Power Steering Plus, ParkAssist front and rear and privacy glass for rear passengers.
Exterior
The exterior gets 19-inch Cayenne Design II wheels while the air intake channels, rear spoiler and bumper are all painted in Platinum Silver Metallic. Porsche will cater for the urban extrovert too, with exterior paint options like Carrera White right through to a Mahogany Metallic.
Interior
Climb inside and a Black/Luxor Beige two-tone combination awaits. Partial leather is standard, but larger wallets can opt for a full leather interior. Platinum Edition logos abound inside the cabin to ensure the neighbours remain impressed. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is also included with navigation, plus an 11-speaker sound system with 235 Watts of power.
Mechanicals
The Cayenne petrol offers 300hp from the Tiptronic S, returning 28.5mpg. The more frugal 3.0-litre diesel comes with a more modest 245hp, but improves fuel economy to 39.2mpg.
Anything else?
The order books are now open with deliveries starting in January 2014. It is expected that the petrol model will be priced at about £49,000 and the diesel at nearly £50,000.
