What's the news?
A popular family SUV, the Holden Captiva can seat from five to seven passengers and always gets top marks for practicality and safety. The new 2014 Holden Captiva debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, showing off the results of its most recent makeover, the latest since 2011. With redesigned tail lights, a new rear bumper and square exhaust outlets, the exterior has visibly changed. However, there has also been a significant upgrade to the Captiva's interior. It's worth taking a closer look to see how the Captiva has changed for 2014, and what we can expect to see in the future.
Exterior Changes
The most obvious changes to the new Captiva are to its exterior. There have been a number of updates to both the front and rear of the vehicle. At the rear, these include new LED tail lights, along with a remodelled bumper and more angular, square exhaust tips. The front of the car has a lower, sleeker bumper, a refined grille mesh and newly styled fog lamps. Finally, the 2014 Captiva will offer new 18-inch alloy wheels. The overall effect is more refined, aggressive and commanding on the road. Still available in both five- and seven-seat options, the Captiva looks more modern with these exterior changes. Many of the features that you can read about in this Holden Captiva review at motoring.com.au are still available. For example, it will still be available in a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, and will come in a wide range of different engine types and styles. At the time of writing, the full engine line-up for 2014 has not yet been announced, but it's not expected that this will vary too much from the current offerings.
New Comfort Features
Although the exterior has been visibly given a facelift to make it look more modern and in line with its main rivals, there are a number of less visible updates that will also give it a lift. Keyless entry and start will now come as standard kit on upper trim levels of the car. Inside, motorists can choose from a range of new seat colours, fabrics and trims for the instrument panel. Leather seats will be available as an option, as will comfort features such as ambient lighting and heated rear seats. Dual-zone climate control will also be available on certain specifications. The idea is to take what drivers like about the existing Captiva and make it more luxurious and comfortable.
These new and improved features should help the Captiva compete with its numerous sporty rivals, including the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, and Mitsubishi Outlander. Competition is tight in the crowded compact SUV market, but this only leads to greater choice for consumers. Although plans for a full reworking of the car have not yet been revealed, it's rumoured that it will get a more extensive remodelling in 2015. For now, we can look forward to these changes coming out in next year's model.
