Summertime usually sees the launch of many special editions as the manufacturers attempt to kick start holiday sales. Lamborghini has just launched the Gallardo SE (Special Edition), though you won't be surprised to hear that this Gallardo features more than just a few cheap stickers and a set of alloy wheels.
Well actually the SE Gallardo does feature alloys, though there is nothing cheap about the stunning bespoke 19-inch 'Callisto' 5-spoke rims, with a thin sliver of Pirelli P-Zero Corsa rubber around each. Behind the wheels lie grey or yellow brake callipers. The biggest external visual difference between the SE and the regular Gallardo comes from the contrasting 'Nero Noctis' black on the engine cover, roof, front and rear spoilers and on the side mirrors. Another five colours are available for the main bodywork along with the yellow paint pictured.
Inside, the main body colour is carried over onto the partially perforated leather and stitching. If you think it looks a little garish in yellow, imagine what it's like in green! A rear-facing camera projects images onto the in-dash screen to help with parking. Only 250 SEs are being produced worldwide, each with its VIN on a Lamborghini shield. The shield is echoed on the headrests. Other standard equipment includes a car cover.
Actual technical details are scant, but the Gallardo SE receives an uprated engine, reducing the 0-62mph time to just four seconds, and increasing the top speed to 197mph. Apparently the suspension is stiffened and the gear ratios are shortened as well. A small number of Gallardo SEs will be imported into the UK at a price of about £134,000. Deliveries start in September.
We believe that an open-topped production version of the Gallardo will debut at this year's
Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the SE.
