What's the news?
Mercedes-Benz has announced prices for the more powerful version of the E 63 AMG, the S model, which boasts an extra 28hp and 80Nm of torque. Production starts in June with prices from £83,740 for the saloon.
Exterior
Both saloon and estate versions of the E 63 AMG S will be available. Styling updates include a high-gloss lower air intake with a silver painted splitter. The same 'silver shadow' paint also features on the side skirts and back bumper inserts. The AMG badge on the back of the car gains an 'S' prefix to make it clear that this isn't the ordinary AMG version.
Interior
Black nappa leather upholstery is standard with contrasting grey stitching and the AMG logo in the headrests. The insignia is repeated in the illuminated door sills and there is an AMG instrument cluster with red detailing and S badging.
Mechanicals
The 5.5-litre V8 engine develops 585hp and 800Nm of torque. Drive goes through a mechanical limited-slip differential with a claimed 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds for the saloon and 4.2 seconds for the estate - 0.1 seconds faster than the standard E 63 AMG models. Fuel economy is 28.5mpg with CO2 emissions of 232g/km for the saloon with the estate returning 28.3mpg and emitting 234g/km.
Anything else?
Seven metallic and one non-metallic finishes are available as standard with Diamond White and Hyacinth Red metallic paint available for an extra £480. Two 'designo' metallic paints (Mocha Black and Graphite) are offered for £1,125 and two design Magno matt colours, Allanite Grey and Cashmere White, cost £2,775.
