What's the news?
Kia has gone to town revising its Sorento model, claiming that the refresh has improved safety, comfort, luxury, driving dynamics, fuel economy and emissions figures.
Exterior
As expected, the light clusters and front bumper have been replaced with new ones, but Kia has completely redesigned the back end. Styling changes are claimed to result in a more aerodynamically efficient shape and LED daytime running lights now come as standard on all models.
Interior
The updated car comes in four trim levels: KX-1, KX-2, KX-2 Sat Nav and KX-3. All versions now come with rear parking sensors, cruise control, door sill scuff plates (which are illuminated in top-spec guise) and a new smaller gear lever that leaves more space for cubbyholes in the centre. The new chassis also improves cabin space for middle and rear occupants while leaving exterior dimensions unchanged.
Top of the range KX-3 models get a seven-inch TFT screen in place of the three-dial instrument cluster, plus dual-zone climate control, electric seats that are heated and ventilated, a heated steering wheel and a 10-speaker audio system.
Mechanicals
All Sorentos come with the new 2.2-litre CRDi diesel engine, developing 194hp and 422Nm of torque. Economy is also improved and now stands at 47.9mpg on the combined cycle.
New brakes, steering system, suspension and wider wheels are claimed to generate improvements on the handling front with six airbags and active front headrests improving safety.
Anything else?
Available to order from early this month, the new Kia Sorento starts at £26,495 with first deliveries expected for early December.
