What's the news?
Toyota has revealed launch prices and specifications for its new Auris model, which is due to go on sale later this year. The four grades are Active, Icon, Sport and Excel; and prices start from £14,495.
Exterior
Building on the modern styling of the basic Active model, 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lamps are added to the Icon version. Sport models gain 17-inch alloy wheels and other styling features in the form of a sports front grille, a rear 'diffuser', sports exhaust trim and tinted windows at the back. The top of the range Auris Excel also sports 17-inch wheels and tinted windows; but gains front and rear parking sensors and electrically folding door mirrors.
Interior
Equipment levels on the base-level Active model include automatic air conditioning, electric door mirrors and electric front windows along with USB and aux-in capability for the stereo. Cabin toys increase throughout the model range, with top spec models getting automatic wipers, lights and rear view mirror, heated seats, cruise control and Toyota's new Park Assist system. Combined with front and rear sensors, this will not only guide the car unaided into a parking space, but will also carefully steer the car back out of it.
Other upgrades include the Touch & Go multimedia system, featuring satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. A Skyview panoramic roof and leather upholstery are also available on Excel models.
Mechanicals
The Auris will be launched with four different engines combined with three gearbox options; including Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive unit coupled to an electronic E-CVT gearbox. Six-speed manual and Multidrive S automatic transmissions are also available. Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, Hill-Start Assist and a stability control system.
Anything else?
Toyota's new Auris is set for UK launch in December this year, with all trim levels and powertrains available immediately.
