SEAT has revealed details of its refreshed Ibiza supermini that is expected to be officially launched at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The current generation car has been with us since 2008, selling more than 500,000 examples since then, but has been crying out for a refresh to bring it in line with the rest of the manufacturer's line-up. The new look includes more angular headlights and a stretched grille meaning the supermini looks more like models such as the Alhambra and Leon.

SEAT has simplified and improved the interior design with a new climate control system, clearer dials, a larger glove box and new paint surfaces. The engines of old has been carried over but with efficiency improvements.

The range of petrol options extends from the economical 1.2-litre 60hp unit to the more potent 1.4-litre 150hp TSI found in the FR model. For the first time this engine, which is mated to a DSG transmission as standard, will be available in the estate body creating a new Ibiza ST FR.

On the diesel front the 1.2 TDI E Ecomotive that returns 83mpg and emits 89g/km is sure to star, although the 143hp 2.0 TDI does make for an interesting proposition.

The new SEAT Ibiza is due to go on sale in spring with full details of UK trim levels, prices and technical specifications announced closer to launch.
