Honda's Insight has never really caught the public's imagination in the same way as the Toyota Prius has, so the Japanese manufacturer is hoping upcoming adjustments will change that.
The updates, which are set to be unveiled at the
Frankfurt Motor Show, are aimed at making the Insight even cleaner, more efficient and better looking. Reduced engine friction, changes to the CVT transmission and improved air conditioning are said to contribute to lower fuel consumption.
Exterior changes to the front grille, rear spoiler and some of the tailgate jewellery not only gives the Insight a minor facelift but has the benefit of improving the hybrid car's aerodynamics. In conjunction with the powertrain improvements the updates are said to lower the cars CO
2 to 96g/km.
This means that the 2012 Insight once again qualifies for exemption from the London Congestion Charge, and falls into the lowest VED band, meaning owners will pay no annual road tax. The new figures also ensure that the Insight remains in one of the lowest groups for Benefit in Kind taxation.
Adjustments have also been made to the engine and suspension for an overall improvement to ride comfort and stability, while interior quality has been enhanced.
