Two new engines will bookend the revised Vauxhall Insignia range when it goes on sale later in 2011. A 250bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol will be the top of the range choice, while a new 138bhp 1.4-litre ecoFLEX turbodiesel cuts carbon dioxide emissions to 134g/km to appeal to the business driver market.
The 250bhp four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine will come with four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Vauxhall says this is enough power and traction to see this model from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds while the top speed is 155mph. Fuel economy for this model is 33.6mpg and emissions come in at 197g/km.
Vauxhall will fit start-stop to the new 250bhp unit, as well as to the new 1.4-litre petrol that offers 49.4mpg and 134g/km carbon dioxide output. This engine is a direct replacement for the outgoing 1.8-litre petrol unit.
The revised Insignia will also be offered with an upgraded infotainment system with improved satellite navigation. A front-mounted camera will be another option that adds a Following Distance Indication (FDI) warning to a system that already recognises road signs and has a lane departure warning. The FDI will operate with a Forward Collision Alert to warn the driver of an impending crash.
Vauxhall will reveal full pricing and specifications for the revised Insignia ahead of the Frankfurt motor show.
