The BMW 5 Series range has been augmented with a new 520d EfficientDynamics model. It emits only 119g/km and qualifies for a Benefit in Kind taxation class of only 13%.
The 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine produces the same 184bhp as other 520d models, but also returns improved fuel economy of 62.8mpg. This renders it the most fuel efficient car in its class.
BMW's EfficientDynamics package adds a longer final drive ratio to reduce engine revs at motorway speeds. Other changes include low rolling resistance tyres, a gear shift indicator, regenerative braking and a stop start system.
The 520d EfficientDynamics also comes with BMW's new eco-pro system. This adjusts the engine mapping, throttle sensitivity, automatic gearbox shift points and regulates the climate control and heated seats to deliver the best economy and emissions.
Customers can get their hands on the 520d EfficientDynamics in September and prices start at £30,435. Other new models to join the 5 Series range include the 520i and 528i petrol-powered cars, which start at £31,190 and £33,615 respectively. A 525d model joins the range with 218bhp from its 2.0-litre turbodiesel and with a starting price of £35,135.
