There are currently 17 versions of the Alfa Romeo to choose from, a number the Italian company thought too confusing.
So when the new versions go on sale, in June, there'll be just nine MiTos. A significant reduction, although buyers will then be faced with a different issue: the new names.
Entry-level cars will be called Progression, while Turismo and Lusso make way for Sprint. Veloce becomes Distinctive, and Cloverleaf is changed to Quadrifoglio Verde. Yep, you try asking for that last one in your best Brummie accent.
The good news is that the Alfa Romeo MiTo is now cheaper to get into, with a lower £12,250 starting price for a 1.4-litre 78bhp Progression. You might say that's progress.
Distinctive specification distinguishes itself with more kit than the Veloce it replaces, including cruise control and rear parking sensors.
Three new engines slot into the MiTo's chipper front end. The aforementioned entry-level 1.4-litre petrol unit, which replaces the 95bhp unit of the same capacity, boasts improved economy, partly due to stop-start.
There's the Fiat Group 1.4-litre MultiAir with 105bhp now too, and a 1.3-litre JTDm-2 diesel that has 85bhp and a tax-eriffic 95g/km of CO2.
Finally, a new colour swab will grace the walls of your local Fiat dealer: Metal Bronze. You can see it in the pictures. It's officially our third favourite Alfa MiTo colour.
