The latest hot Vauxhall Corsa has been revealed: the 202bhp VXR Nürburgring Edition will go on sale in late May. As well as more power it gets a limited-slip differential, modified suspension and better brakes.
Driving the Corsa is an improved version of Vauxhall's 1.6-litre, turbocharged engine. Power is up by 16bhp thanks to a less restrictive exhaust, new turbocharger and revised engine management system. Claimed performance figures include 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and a 143mph top speed. Just remember if you buy one that the Nürburgring Edition requires 98 octane unleaded petrol.
Channelling the power to the road is a multi-plate mechanical, limited-slip differential. Vauxhall claims that the new differential reduces understeer, as well as improving traction. Handling should benefit from new Bilstein springs and dampers, which lower the ride height. The final sign off for the chassis took place at the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife (North Loop).
Brakes come from Brembo and are said to be 30 per cent lighter than before. Despite this, braking area is increased by ten percent. The anti-lock braking system, traction control and Electronic Stability Control have been recalibrated to suit the new set-up.
Visual identifiers for the hottest Corsa include stainless steel dual exhausts, forged alloy wheels finished in high-gloss grey and Nürburgring logos on the B-pillars and front spoiler. Two new colours are offered: apple green 'Grasshopper' and red 'Henna'. The interior carries the name of the German circuit on the sill tread plates and the Recaro seats.
The Corsa VXR Nürburgring costs £22,295 and we'll be testing it in early May.
