These are the first official pictures of the Range Rover Evoque five-door model, released by Land Rover before the car's official debut at the
LA Auto Show next week.
Though the Evoque is billed as a more compact, lighter Ranger Rover with better fuel economy and a lower price tag, bosses decided that the three-door version wasn't all that family friendly, so an extra set of doors was deemed necessary.
The five-door version is identical to the three-door car in all but height and the shape of the roof. It's 30mm taller and the roof is set at less of an angle than that of the coupé to improve headroom by 30mm in the front and 40mm in the rear. This also necessitated a 60mm longer windscreen and a slightly deeper tailgate.
Engines will remain the same as those in the three-door model: expect a pair of 2.2-litre turbodiesel units in 148- and 187bhp guises and a 2.0-litre 237bhp turbocharged petrol engine. Two- and four-wheel drive versions will also be available.
In front-wheel drive 148bhp diesel guise, the five-door is expected to offer around 50mpg and emissions of between 130- and 135g/km. Land Rover has also announced that all Evoques will feature its MagneRide adjustable shock absorbers to improve road holding without compromising off-road ability.
There will be a modest price increase for the five-door Evoque over the three-door model, but Land Rover hasn't revealed exactly how much. Expect it to cost between £30- and 35,000 when it arrives next summer.
