With the Paris Motor Show only a day away Lexus has revealed more details of its CT 200h. The Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series rival is due to arrive in the UK early next year.
Fitted with a 1.8-litre engine developing 98bhp and an electric motor taking the total output to 134bhp, Lexus claims a 0-62mph time of 10.3 seconds. The CT 200h can also run for up to a mile and a half on battery power alone at speeds of up to 28mph. Provisional figures for economy and emissions are 68.9mpg on the combined cycle and 96g/km respectively.
Lexus has promised a high standard of ride comfort and handling. To achieve this it has engineered the body to be rigid with a low centre of gravity. Suspension is independent all round with struts at the front and a double wishbone and trailing arm set-up at the rear. Energy-saving electric power steering is fitted. With 2.7 turns from lock-to-lock it promises sharp responses.
The CT 200h has been designed to achieve a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. Safety systems include the Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS), which uses radar to detect potential hazards, warn the driver and, if necessary, apply the brakes to reduce impact speed. Adaptive Cruise Control is also fitted to help maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
On the inside of the CT, Lexus promises a snug environment for the driver but with class-leading head- and shoulder room in the front. Slim seats and a flat rear floor should mean that rear seat passengers won't go short of room either.
The Lexus CT 200h will make its official debut in Paris on 30 September. UK prices and specifications will be announced in mid October with the order book opening at the same time.
