BMW has revealed its plans for the
Paris Motor Show. We featured the
Concept 6 Series Coupé recently. In addition there is the
new X3, the electric Concept ActiveE and updates for the 5 Series range.
The new X3 gets smoother styling and more space for people and luggage. Initially the X3 will come with a choice of 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel power or a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine. The 3.0-litre unit comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The same transmission is available with the diesel engine as an option and comes with start-stop.
The
Concept ActiveE has received plenty of coverage, having been seen at the
Detroit Motor Show earlier this year. Based on the 1 Series Coupé, BMW claims it will carry four people and provide the same driving pleasure as any BMW but with no tailpipe emissions.
Updates for the 5 Series include three new engines for the Touring: a 254bhp petrol unit and two diesels with 201- or 296bhp. Paris will also see the introduction of the xDrive, all-wheel drive option for the 5 Series saloon, Touring and Gran Turismo models. The four-wheel drive versions will go on sale in spring 2011, though BMW hasn't said which, if any, versions will reach the UK. The 5 Series saloon and Touring also get the option of an M Sport package that includes lower suspension, new alloy wheels and sports seats.
We'll bring you more details from Paris when the show opens to the press on 30 September.
