Skoda has announced the launch of a new 1.6-litre common rail TDI engine for the Superb. It replaces the 1.9-litre PD motor in the range and is available from £17,480.
The new engine develops 105bhp, just like the old one, and Skoda quotes identical 0-62mph times for old and new versions: 12.5 seconds for the saloon/hatch, 12.6 seconds for the estate. The improved economy - up to 56.5mpg on the combined cycle - and CO2 emissions - down to 130g/km - will probably matter more to customers than the fact that the claimed top speed is reduced by 1mph compared with the old, 1.9-litre version.
Available in S and SE grades the Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI CR can be ordered now, priced from £17,480 to £20,780.
