RM Auctions has confirmed that an ultra-rare 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO has sold for an undisclosed fee. The 250 GTO is considered to be the world's most coveted car and fetches staggering money at auction.
The buyer wishes to remain anonymous and keep the price a secret. However, an RM spokesman told us that the estimated value of the car prior to the sale was $15-20million (£10.2-13.7million).
The highest documented price for a GTO is the £15.7m paid in 2008 by an unnamed UK buyer. Only 36 of the V12-powered sports cars were ever produced between 1962 and 1964.
Max Girardo, MD of RM Europe, said: "The exclusivity of Ferrari's 250 GTO cannot be understated. As they rarely come to market, new owners become part of a very exclusive club and are welcomed with open arms at literally any of the world's great concours events, races and rallies."
