We're used to the idea that artists look at familiar objects and interpret them in unusual ways; but nothing could prepare us for the BMW-based Dwelling Lab.
Designers Patricia Urquiola and Giulio Ridolfo - working with Danish textile company, Kvadrat - have opened up a BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Five geometric cones provide a unique view of the car's interior whilst nearly obscuring the exterior. The whole installation is covered in textile, which gives it a uniform colour and texture. It looks a little like an unpainted clay styling model. The completed installation shows the interior packed full of child seats, suitcases and other familiar objects - presumably to show how the car is a living space.
The Dwelling Lab is on display at Salone del Mobile Milano 2010; a show dedicated to high-end home furnishing.
