BMW has released information on the changes being made to its M range for 2010. The revisions include an EfficientDynamics M3, more safety technologies on the X5 M and
X6 M and updates to the Individual range of interior options.
The M3 range (
Coupé,
Convertible and
saloon) sees the introduction of stop-start technology to improve fuel economy. The system cuts the engine when the car is at a standstill and starts up again when the driver wishes to move away. Figures vary depending on which gearbox is fitted, but the system apparently improves efficiency by up to eight per cent and results in 25.2mpg with the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox 22.8mpg with the six-speed manual.
The M3 also has now the option of a Competition Package for the Coupé and saloon. This includes lowered suspension and 19-inch wheels, as well as adjustments to the EDC (Electronic Damper Control) system. On the inside, the Competition Package includes an M leather steering wheel and sports seats for driver and passenger.
On the X5 and X6 M, further driver aids have been fitted. Side View consists of two cameras fitted to the side of the front bumpers that monitor road conditions to avoid any impact with crossing traffic. Speed Limit Info is a camera mounted on the windscreen that monitors speed restrictions for the area. This is then related back to the Head-Up Display or instrument panel.
Aside from the X5 M, the 2010 X5 will be available with an M Sport Package from launch, and will be seen at Geneva in March. It will consist of sportier suspension settings, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels and larger air inlets in the front apron. The interior can be fitted with extras like sports seats and an M leather steering wheel.
BMW will no doubt display much of this new machinery at the
Geneva Motor Show from March 2.
