Choose a Fiat 500 and you now get an extra 20bhp for no more cash. This is because Fiat has replaced the previous 75bhp MultiJet turbodiesel with its latest 95bhp version, as seen in the
new Punto Evo.
The extra dollop of grunt helps the 500 go from 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds compared to the old model's 12.5-second slog. Top speed also rises from 103- to 112mph, while mid-range oomph jumps from 107lb.ft at 1,750rpm to 148lb.ft at 1,500rpm for bolder overtaking.
Economy is also boosted with the new engine to 72.4mpg combined from the old motor's 67.3mpg. This is achieved with the help of Fiat's Start&Stop technology, which all revised diesel 500s now use to cut the engine when the car is at a standstill. It also helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the previous model's 110- to 104g/km.
There has been a slight price increase with the new engine, which now costs £11,700 for the entry-level Pop model. However, Fiat has added its Blue&Me Bluetooth connection as standard. The Lounge and Sport models with the new powerplant remain at the same price of £13,100.
