Swedish car manufacturer Volvo is going to build a baby SUV to compete against cars such as the BMW X3, Jeep Cherokee and
Land Rover Freelander.
The new baby brother of the Volvo XC90 SUV will be named the XC60 and will be introduced towards the end of 2006. It will share technology with the next generation Land Rover Freelander.
The XC60 will take its styling cues from the XC90 and the new S40/V50 range. Its engine range will include diesel and petrol variants.
Volvo is also planning an XC50, an all-terrain model based on the V50 estate. This more muscular version of the V50 will follow the concept of the XC70 Cross Country.
The XC50's engine range will reflect that of the S40 and will be launched next year.
