Toyota has updated the Auris range with revised engines in the name of economy and emissions. Six-speed transmissions have been standardised across the line-up with some models benefiting from MultiMode transmission as an alternative to the manual gearbox. The updated Auris is on sale now with prices starting at £12,900.
All the engines have been updated in line with Toyota Optimal Drive to reduce emissions and benefit fuel economy. There is a new 1.6-litre Valvematic engine, the UK-built motor replacing the 1.6 VVT-i powerplant and offering slightly more power and torque as well as improvements in fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions. Key figures are 131bhp, 118lb.ft and 43.5mpg on the combined cycle with manual transmission, while CO2 emissions are 153g/km.
The other engines have been revised to improve economy and reduce emissions. The line-up starts with the 1.3-litre dual VVT-i petrol engine and includes three diesel units: the 1.4-litre D-4D 89bhp, 2.0-litre D-4D 124bhp and 2.2-litre D-CAT 175bhp. The smallest diesel is the economy champion returning 60.1mpg on the combined cycle while the 2.2 D-CAT provides the best performance with a claimed 130mph top speed and 8.1-second 0-62mph time.
Four trim levels are now offered; T2, TR (expected to be the most popular option), T Spirit and SR180. Changes to equipment are minimal, but Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is now an option on the 1.4 D-4D TR model. Both the T Spirit and SR180 receive an improved Smart Entry and Start system that opens the boot and passenger doors in addition to the driver's door.
The new range starts at £12,900 for the three-door T2 model with the 1.3-litre engine. The most expensive model is the five-door SR180, which is only offered with the 2.2-litre D-CAT engine and costs £18,965.
