Nissan has revealed a more sporting version of the
370Z at the
New York Auto Show. The NISMO 370Z features more power, a stiffened suspension, modified bodywork and interior improvements. It will go on sale in the USA in June 2009.
A less restrictive exhaust and revised engine management takes power output to 345bhp and torque up to 276lb.ft (compared with 332bhp and 270lb.ft in the standard car). The engine is paired with a close ratio, six-speed manual gearbox. Nissan's Synchro Rev Match is retained as standard.
Although the suspension layout is unchanged, the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars have all been stiffened. Forged, nineteen-inch RAYS alloy wheels carry Yokohama ADVAN high-performance tyres - 245/40 ZR19 at the front and 285/35 ZR19 at the rear. A viscous limited-slip differential helps the rear tyres to get the power down.
Braking is taken care of by 356mm front and 351mm rear disks. Compared with the standard 370Z the steering mechanism features redesigned bushes to improve response. To reduce kickback a solenoid valve acts as a damper under sudden impact loads.
The body receives a number of aerodynamically tailored additions. The nose section is smoother than on the standard 370Z with an integrated chin spoiler. Side skirts and a new rear bumper further control airflow under the car. The rear spoiler has been redesigned and is claimed to increase downforce. Five colours are offered: Pearl White, Brilliant Silver, Magnetic Black, Solid Red and Platinum Graphite.
Inside, the colour scheme is predominantly black with red accents. NISMO logos feature on the seat-backs and the rev-counter. 'Anti-slip' cloth helps the sports seats provide the necessary support.
It all adds up to an impressive-sounding package. The 370Z is enticing enough in its own right and we like the sound of a sharper, faster and more focussed version. Customers in the USA will be able to get their hands on the NISMO 370Z from June, but there's no word yet on a European launch.
