Audi has introduced a new, entry-level version of the TT Roadster. Featuring a 1.8-litre TFSI engine it is about £3,500 cheaper than the 2.0-litre model. Customers can order the new Roadster now with the first cars reaching dealers in a few weeks.
The engine is the same 1.8-litre unit offered in the
A3 Cabriolet. Featuring direct fuel injection and turbocharging it produces 158bhp and 184lb.ft. With maximum torque available from 1,500rpm to 4,500rpm the standard six-speed transmission seems unnecessary; the twin-clutch S-tronic transmission is not offered. Audi claims that 0-62mph takes 7.4 seconds and 139mph is possible. The TT Roadster also returns 40.9mpg on the combined cycle and has a CO
2 rating of 159g/km.
The latest Roadster uses the same suspension as other TTs: a combination of McPherson struts at the front and a four-link set-up at the rear. Seventeen-inch Y-design alloy wheels are fitted and the chassis can be enhanced with Audi's magnetic ride adaptive dampers.
Standard equipment includes cloth-upholstered sports seats, climate control and CD audio system. The Roadster also features a powered soft-top that can be raised or lowered in 12 seconds and operated at speeds up to 19mph.
The 1.8 TFSI Roadster costs £23,910 on-the-road (the 2.0-litre Roadster costs £27,355). The first cars will reach dealers in April and can be pre-ordered now.
