Remember that infamous scene where Jeremy Clarkson and James May drank gin and tonics while driving a bright red Toyota Hilux to the North Pole? The Arctic special of
Top Gear was a phenomenal success for the BBC and Toyota alike and now the Japanese car maker has gone back for more, by taking the Hilux to the opposite side of the world - precisely.
The expedition to the South Pole was also part of a race, though the Toyotas played a supporting role rather than leading the charge itself. The Hiluxes were modified by Reykjavik-based Arctic Trucks to support the Amundsen Omega3 South Pole Race, a 483-mile skiing challenge celebrating the historic rival expeditions of explorers Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott.
Check out the video below showing how Arctic Trucks converted a standard Hilux into something more suitable for the challenge. There's also footage of the Hilux in action on the ice.
