What?
The Z.E. is an electric vehicle concept with zero tailpipe emissions. It is based on the new
Kangoo be bop, but with a host of energy saving features. For example the body is designed to maintain an even temperature inside without the need for extensive use of heating or air conditioning. Solar panels in the roof run the temperature regulation system to maintain a comfortable cabin environment even when parked. Energy wasting aerodynamic drag is reduced by the addition of smooth wheel trims and rear-view cameras instead of conventional mirrors.
When?
Renault expects to bring something like the Z.E. to market by 2011.
Verdict?
The Z.E. looks a bit twee, but the indications are that electric propulsion will be the next big thing especially for city cars that don't cover large mileages.
