The Lagonda name has a long if somewhat intermittent history. Nearly twenty years have passed since the Lagonda was a catalogued model. However, the marque will return to production - possibly in as little as four years time.
This week, Aston Martin's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez, announced the revival of the Lagonda name. In the future Aston will continue to build sportscars while Lagonda will offer "exclusive, luxurious and truly versatile products with high quality and usability". The aim is to increase the number of markets in which Aston Martin sells cars. Currently Aston is present in thirty two countries and the aim is to increase this to over one hundred.
Next year's Rapide will be a "four door sportscar" and wear the Aston Martin badge. Dr Bez did suggest that the first Lagonda concept car will be displayed in 2009 and, if everything goes to plan, the car should be ready for sale in 2012.
