| New electric concept | Subaru STELLA |
As the world's most important politicians gather in Tokyo on 7-9 July for the G8 Summit, many of them will be treated to a first ride in Subaru's latest electric vehicle concept, the STELLA.
The STELLA uses the same electric power system as the Subaru R1e, which is already on sale in Japan. However, the STELLA has been designed as a more practical mini-MPV and offers more interior space in a car roughly the same size as the supermini R1e.
Power comes from a 40kW electric motor that generates 110lb.ft of torque and helps the STELLA to a top speed of 62mph. With a full charge, the car has a range of 50 miles and Subaru says the lithium-ion battery is quick to recharge.
Four of the STELLA concept cars will be used at the G8 Summit, with a fifth car on display. Subaru has stated its commitment to electric vehicles as part of its green future.
