| New derivative | UK market | Smart Fortwo CDi |
Smart will begin sales of its Fortwo CDi diesel in February 2009 in the UK. It claims to be the world's cleanest diesel-engined car as it emits just 88g/km of carbon dioxide.
Economy is equally impressive as the Fortwo diesel turns in a combined consumption figure of 85.6mpg, which is enough for a single fill to take the car from London to John O' Groats. It uses a 45bhp, three-cylinder common rail diesel and the same five-speed semi-automatic gearbox as
current Smart models.
The Smart Fortwo CDi will be a full UK-spec model with right-hand drive. Smart will announce prices and trim levels closer to the car going on sale in February 2009.
