The Vauxhall Meriva Concept, making its world debut in
Geneva will show off Vauxhall's new 'FlexDoors' system for the back doors, which hinge at the rear to open in the opposite direction to the conventionally hinged front doors.
Vauxhall says this new arrangement allows a wider, more easily accessed opening to the rear seats. The doors themselves can swing open a full 90-degrees, opening out much more than a normal MPV's rear doors.
Safety is also another area where Vauxhall says the FlexDoors system works, as it gives parents more control over when and where the rear doors are opened by their children. As well as the conventional mechanical child lock, there's also an electronic child lock operated from the driver's seat.
The new Meriva is expected to make its debut later in 2008 and Vauxhall insiders say the Meriva Concept is very close to how the final production model will look.
