| Facelifted Model Preview | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Mercedes-Benz SL |
Once again a website has broken an automotive embargo and now it's pretty much open season on the new-look Mercedes-Benz SL. Apparently Merc was all set to give us the full details on January 30th, but we can bring them to you a little early.
Think of the new SL as more of a facelift than a new car. Viewed from the rear there are only subtle changes to the current model, though the nose is all-new and brings the SL into line with the latest models in the range such as the
C-Class and the forthcoming
GLK. The new headlights are of similar shape to those on the CLS four-door, while the bonnet bulges are a nod to SLs of the past.
Needless to say that Merc will have updated the interior and equipment too, including variable ratio, speed sensitive steering to make the SL feel more agile. Most of the existing engines are likely to receive tweaks in the everlasting search for more power at the same time as better fuel economy. The range will be extended though by the addition of a new entry level model. The new SL 280 will be powered by a 228bhp 3.0-litre V6, which returns 30.0mpg on the combined cycle, yet still manages to push the SL to 62mph in less than eight seconds.
Mercedes will show the SL in public for the first time at the
Geneva motorshow in March, with first drives shortly afterwards.
