| New Hardcore Version | Renault Clio RenaultSport 197 Cup |
Stripped of non-essential extras, the Clio 197 Cup is geared towards enhanced handling and performance. This means that air-conditioning and curtain airbags are only available as optional extras in the Cup, features that come as standard on the
Clio RenaultSport 197.
The Cup chassis was first used on the limited edition
Clio RenaultSport 197 F1 Team R27 and features a lower ride height for greater competence in its steering, handling and stability.
The whole Clio RenaultSport range is also now subject to a new and improved gearbox, with taller fifth and sixth gears. This should improve the car's motorway manners, making it quieter and more economical at higher speeds.
To ensure that the 'Cup' is identifiable from other Clio 197s, Renault has given it bright red Brembo brake callipers. There is less opportunity to express your individuality with the colour of the rest of the car however. The only colour that comes as standard is non-metallic Racing Blue. There are only two other colours available, white and metallic grey, both of which have to be paid for.
With this paring down of the Clio 197, Renault is looking to appeal to enthusiasts who are willing to sacrifice what might be deemed to be unnecessary luxury equipment for a greater driving experience. There are unlikely to be many other cars that can compete in terms of thrill per pound.
