| Model Range Update | Frankfurt Motor Show | Skoda Fabia Estate & Greenline |
Making its debut at the show that hits
Frankfurt on alternate years is the new Skoda Fabia Estate. The latest edition to the Czech firm's line-up is larger in every respect than its predecessor; the new load-lugger is 7mm longer and 46mm taller than the outgoing model and is apparently much more spacious inside, too. Class leading stowage space is offered; the new car has 1,460-litres available when the rear seats are folded flat. Buyers will have the choice of three petrol engines and three diesel engines. A tempting price tag will doubtless make this a popular choice when it goes on sale in the UK before the end of the year.
Along with the new Estate will be the Fabia Greenline design study, which is intended to shout about Skoda's push to develop economical, environmentally friendly vehicles and showcase new technologies that will eventually make it to production models. The Greenline is said to boast economy of 69mpg on the combined cycle and emit a low 110g/km of CO
².
The new Greenline initiative is similar in principle to Volkswagen's Bluemotion range, Renault's Eco2 frugal models and Ford's new ECOnetic project.
Those heading to Frankfurt will also get the opportunity to take a look at the Fabia Estate Scout concept car. We anticipate the concept to be similar in styling to both the
Roomster and Octavia Scout, with funky body mouldings and a familiar two-wheel drive platform. Expect it to go into production before the end of the year.
