Yesterday, before a crowd of VIPs and journalists, Renault took the wraps off its new contender for the Formula One championship. At the same time, images were released showing the F1 team's drivers leaning on the first limited edition version of the Clio Renaultsport 197, the 'F1 Team'.
Like last year's
Mégane Renaultsport 230 F1 Team R26, the F1 Team Clio stands out from the rest of the range by the use of Liquid Yellow Renault 'i-d' metallic paint, anthracite alloy wheels, Renault F1 Team and 'World Champion' decals and red brake callipers. We believe that the decals will be optional. Peak through the windows and you'll see some natty Recaro sports seats up front and a numbered plaque.
Of interest to all Renault hot hatch fans will be the debut of the new 'Cup' chassis, which features a lower ride height and stiffer springs and dampers, offering an even more focused driving experience. The Cup pack will be an option on the regular Clio Renaultsport 197 later this year.
Further details will be announced at the
Geneva Motor Show, but we've been told that there will be 500 examples of the F1 Team available for the UK, traditionally the strongest market for the Renaultsport brand.
