Honda's stand was one of the most interesting at this year's
LA Auto Show and for us, the star was the cool new Honda REMIX concept car, an attempt to marry practicality with the agility and style of a two-seat coupé.
Based on a short platform with front-wheel drive and a modest four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox, the REMIX is intended to be fun to drive, but to be used everyday. To that end, the concept has an upright rear-end and a cavernous space for luggage. Think of it as a crossover between coupé and light commercial vehicle.
There's nothing truck-like about the styling of the REMIX though. Sharp, geometric lines are used throughout, with the curve of the side window neatly delineating the bonnet shape. This sharp crease is also found on an Acura concept car at the LA Show, so we think that it could well appear on a new Honda production model soon. The face of the concept isn't quite as distinctive as the rear-end, which incorporates an aerodynamic diffuser and notably generous ground clearance.
Though that may all sound like a recipe for an ancestor to the much-loved and missed Honda CRX, Honda is adamant that the REMIX is a concept only.
