Amid the hourly dance performances on the SEAT stand in
Paris, a new version of the SEAT Altea was launched, and its name, the Altea XL, should give you a clue as to its function in life. The XL version is 187mm longer than the standard Altea, though SEAT's designers have done a good job on the new car's style; yes, it looks long in comparison, but the extension has been well integrated and includes stylish new rear lights.
Rivals to the SEAT Altea XL include Renault's Grande Scenic, which in comparison looks dowdy and uninteresting. Though buyers of this type of vehicle are likely to want to know more about its practicalities. In comparison to the regular Altea, the XL has 123 litres more boot space with the seats in place, though the rear bench can slide forward 140mm, liberating a further 103 litres. If you're not carrying any luggage the rear seats can be moved backwards a further 20mm, increasing legroom for the rear passengers. Safety is well catered for with a long list of standard equipment.
Engine options are likely to be 1.6-litre and 2-litre petrol units (102bhp and 150bhp respectively) and 1.9 and 2-litre TDI versions with 105, 140 or 170bhp. Gearbox options will include the DSG double-clutch manual/automatic.
